MSC Breaks Ground at Central Square at Watermark

Charleston, SC (October 2007) – The Beach Company is pleased to announce that Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the second largest container carrier in the world, has broken ground on its 45,000 square foot South Atlantic corporate headquarters at Central Square at Watermark in Mount Pleasant. This new $7 million Class A facility is slated for completion in August 2008.

MSC will double the size of its current operations, increasing the company’s workforce to over 400 within the next few years, as well as increasing what is already one of Mt. Pleasant’s largest employers. “MSC has grown exponentially in recent years and will continue to grow as we add new generation mega-container ships,” Vice President Sergio Fedelini says. “Mount Pleasant has been able to offer us what many other locations have not – great incentives, a dedicated workforce and reasonable coastal living. We could have located anywhere. Being near a port is not required for daily operations, but it is a very nice benefit.”

Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. of Geneva, Switzerland is a privately owned shipping line that was founded in 1970. The company has rapidly grown from a small conventional ship operator to become one of the leading global shipping lines of the world, operating 340 ships worldwide with 18 offices in North America.
The Beach Company, founded in Charleston in 1945, has honored a tradition of responsibility and excellence in providing top quality real estate products and services for communities, businesses, industries and most importantly, families across the Charleston Lowcountry and Southeast Region.
